Casey’s eTip: Consider Whether You’re the Problem
Even articulate, typically-kind and “good” people can be difficult to deal with when conflict or dissension arises. Here are some signs that you could improve how you “fight fair.”
* You use polarizing language, e.g., “always” or “never”
* You focus on the person’s character, not the issue or behavior
* You keep score, tallying your grievances
* People tend to tiptoe around you or not include you in decisions
* Your life consistently has relational problems
* You excuse your own behavior, but not that of others
* You usually can only see your view of the problem, not the other person’s
* You typically react with defensiveness
