Here’s an acronym from Harold Taylor to help you remember some delegation best practices…
Casey’s eTip: DELEGATE Harold’s Way
The acronym words are Harold’s (Making Time Work for You, p. 229) but I use my words for the quick explanations…
D: Delegate to all employees, not just your best ones
E: Every task doesn’t have to be boring; delegate interesting assignments too
L: Let your team make mistakes–it’s an effective way to learn
E: Encourage them to find better ways to do the assigned tasks/projects
G: Give credit to team members and absorb any blame
A: Ask for solutions, not just problems
T: Trust your people (unless they prove unworthy)
E: Endeavor to share sufficient information and expectations
