Athletes improve their performance by alternating time blocks of great effort with brief rest periods, e.g., running then walking. It’s called interval training and it has the same benefits when applied at work. You decide the intervals, e.g., focus intensely for 30- or 45-minute bursts then answer a few emails or go to the restroom. Then another burst and so on. As a human, you need to stand, sit, move, hydrate, and eat throughout the day etc., so accept and leverage these breaks to balance your high-concentration sessions
