Casey’s eTip: End Your Obligation Streak
Singer/songwriter Aimee Mann wrote: “And so, for the sake of momentum, I’m condemning the future to death so it can match the past” in her song Momentum. This year I’m taking this message to heart and I urge you to consider it, too. For the past 20+ years I’ve made lots of fudge, cookies and sweet breads for my neighbors. It’s a project that I love (and sometimes loathe because it’s so time-consuming). This year, I’m letting the streak end. Without the burden of obligation, this kind of giving might become a want-to instead of a have-to in the future. Or I might discover that it frees me up to express myself in other ways. It’s an experiment in de-prioritizing a project and purging a commitment. Want to join me with an experiment of your own?
