Often we bend our behavior to follow shoulds without thought. “I should get to inbox 0 or reply to every email” are common shoulds. Really? Prioritizing emails over all other work can be a big mistake for many of us. Yet the unexamined “should” generates either misplaced effort or guilt. To free yourself, talk through (or write) about the should to test its validity. You can then decide what’s best for you and your goals.
