Reflecting back or summarizing what the speaker says helps both parties ensure understanding, which saves time, money and aggravation. If the listener has a misunderstanding, it gives the speaker the chance to correct it. And sometimes when speakers hear an accurate rendering of what they said, it leads them to modify it to better reflect what they actually meant. It’s a productivity win-win.
