We are designed to conserve our energy. Exercising disrupts that natural tendency. As this Time article explains, simply knowing how our brains work can help us push through that initial resistance so we can get to the part of exercising that feels good and eventually becomes its own motivation. It begins by realizing that biology, not character, is the challenge. When your brain says you’re too tired or busy for a walk, thank it for its misguided efforts to protect your stored calories. Then go for the walk anyway.
