Casey’s eTip: Re-think and Embrace the Afternoon Nap
Many in the USA disdain naps, thinking they reflect laziness, but that’s just one (not helpful or accurate) way to view a quick snooze. In Japan, the practice of Inemuri–brief, intentional public sleeping–is well accepted. Such naps are viewed almost as a badge of honor: “I’m so productive and operating at such a high level that I need to recharge my batteries.” Afternoon naps can actually enhance performance. Twenty minutes is ideal. Any longer and you move into a deeper sleep and feel groggy. Where can you take a quick nap to see for yourself–your office, car, the breakroom, outdoors? Let me know!
