Give regular updates without being asked, even if you’re saying, “The situation is the same but I want you to know that I’m monitoring it and will continue to keep you informed.” Your active engagement will build trust. When (most) people know they are in the loop and will not be forgotten and their expectations have been made realistic, they will not feel the need to badger you.
