Good restaurant servers can teach us a lot about efficiency and project management. Faced with many demanding customers, they can’t get myopic and fulfill one table’s request before visiting the next . Instead, they check the status of every table in their section and make each trip to the kitchen count: getting water , a check and more–not just the ketchup that table six requested.
Casey’s eTip: Treat Your Project List Like a Busy Restaurant
When you feel overloaded, force yourself to step back and check on the status of all your projects/clients/”hot issues”/roles.
* You’ll know what you’re NOT doing, which soothes anxiety.
* You’ll prevent costly oversights/mistakes from occuring.
* You’ll find you can move some matters forward with a call or email.
* You may be able to delegate some of it.
